On February 5, 2021, Readytex Art Gallery opened a thought-provoking group exhibition ALAKONDRE, WI TRU FESI. It presents the results of the first phase of conversations between the gallery's affiliated artists and theatre maker Alida Neslo. The project started in 2018 and aims to create an Art Manifesto around the concept of ‘Alakondre’ as it manifests itself in the artists’ works. In Suriname, 'Alakondre', which literally means ‘all people', is an often-used expression that refers to the uniquely unified lifestyle within the country’s diverse community.

The first phase, of mostly self-reflection, resulted in artworks where the artists explore their own personal experience with the ‘Alakondre’ principle. This part of the project also led to the first concept of the Art Manifesto, which among other things states: “We celebrate the freedom of diversity, identity and affinity … all three at the same time...”

The ALAKONDRE, WI TRU FESI exhibit will last until Saturday February 27, 2021. Readytex Art Gallery observes the necessary COVID-19 measures.
